Txakoli

Txakoli: The White Wine of the Basque Country

Txakoli is generally a young white wine with a moderate alcohol content, a very aromatic and fresh flavour, and a pleasant level of acidity.

Its most valuable treasure is its minerality. Through its touch of acidity, you can experience the miracle, the personality and the elegance of the wine.

This wine is produced using the indigenous Hondarribi Zuri grape variety, the fruit of very specific agro-climatic conditions with a temperate, wet climate.

We bring you a selection of the three appellations of origin that can be found in the Basque Country: Getaria, Bizkaia and Alava.

On egin! Bon appétit!
-
Red Wine

Red Wine from the Basque Country

In this section, Bask Selekt invites you on a trip through different points in the Basque geography, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the Rioja Alavesa and Navarra wines.

The climate and composition of the soil are factors that determine the division of the "Rioja" appellation of origin into three areas: Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. The land in the Rioja Alavesa is rugged, calcareous and very suitable for the cultivation of wine, with short summers and mild winters. The wine presents a more intense colour and inferior acidity level than that produced in the Rioja Alta. The result is a range of tempranillo red wines, that achieve high levels of quality.

On Egin!! Bon Appétit!!
-
Other Wines

Other Wines from the Basque Country

No less important there are other very rich wines throughout our geography. White wines that are not Txakoli, sparkling wines and the famous rosé wines...

Travelling east we come to Navarra. Who is not familiar with its famous rosés? Flagships of the appellation! Their quality never ceases to improve, with a more and more meticulous preparation process. The Garnacha grape offers wines with a suggestive colour, a rich fruity aroma and a fresh taste.

On Egin!!

Bon Appétit!!
-
Cider & Beer Basque...

Natural Cider from the Basque Country & Basque Craft Beer

It would be unthinkable to leave the Basque Country without drinking and eating in one of our famous and unique cider houses. Cider is the perfect excuse to enjoy the gastronomy and wonderful atmosphere that can be found at the great txotx fiesta. What is the txotx? Although technically it is the action of tapping the "kupela" (barrel), this magic word, which also refers to the stick used to open and close the barrels, encompasses far more than the simple act of enjoying a glass of good natural cider. For the people of Gipuzkoa, the txotx is one of their hallmarks, being a festive act deeply rooted in friendship, respect, culture and fun. Txotx!!!

Our craft beers are equally tasty and you can find a careful selection in this section of our BaskButik.

On Egin!! Bon Appétit!!
-
