Eguren Ugarte Crianza is a red wine from D.O. Rioja, produced by Bodegas Ugarte, one of the wineries belonging to the Eguren family.
This classic wine is a blend mainly of Tempranillo with a small percentage of Garnacha. The grapes come from vineyards located in Labastida, Páganos, and Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa.
The climate in this area is Mediterranean with strong Atlantic influences. The Cantabrian Mountains act as a natural barrier, protecting the vineyards from cold northern winds.
The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils at an altitude between 400 and 700 meters above sea level, providing ideal conditions for vine cultivation.
The harvest is carried out mechanically to ensure the grapes are picked at the optimal moment. After careful selection at the winery, the grapes undergo destemming and crushing. The must is then fermented with selected yeasts for 15 days at a controlled temperature of 25-28°C, with daily pump-overs. After fermentation, a 7-day maceration takes place.
Finally, Eguren Ugarte Crianza ages for 15 months in American and French oak barrels, with rackings every 4-6 months. The aging process is completed with 6 months of bottle aging before release.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Eguren Ugarte has a deep, intense cherry-red color, clean and bright.
Nose: Aromas of ripe red and black fruits, such as blueberries, red currants, and blackberries, perfectly blended with toasted notes and hints of vanilla from oak aging.
Palate: Fresh on entry, followed by a well-structured tannic backbone. Black fruits and aging notes emerge, giving the wine body and structure.
